Silver octopus keeps watch on bones, bits of mechanical detritus, in tropical overgrowth of Gardner Island/Nikumaroro, Amelia's likely last landing.
(see TIGHAR.org for the latest updates).

The bones are cleaned and bleached ones recycled from owl castings, and of course represent Amelia and her navigator, Joe Noonan, although in reality the crabs on Niku would have devoured them within weeks of their deaths; the mechanical bits are watch parts standing in, in this mini scene, for bits of of the Lockheed Electra 10E Speical, 16020, also known as the Earhart Electra (I'm sure it had another name, but haven't been able to find it!); the jungle overgrowth is just that; and I think the octopus, although he certainly could be in this scene, actually sneaked over from the Beatles song.

It's hung on a chain created from some of the big links from Findings, connected with bits of other chain recycled from other jewelry, and the length can be adjusted by attaching the lobster clasp to any big link.

It's an interesting piece and one close to my heart--I've been a fan of Earhart since childhood and have been hanging breathlessly on the TIGHAR reports as it appears that they may have located her final landing place.

This piece should be fine under normal wearing conditions. I would, however, keep it outside car shoulder belts, away from animals and small children, and out of bathtubs and swimming pools.
