*** Countdown of remaining resources/materials left to make these Michigan/Canada Caps. Please check back in the coming week for a restock of a few more caps in various sizes.***

Michigan Cap, also called a Canadian Cap. We are pleased to offer this unique cap in limited supply after months of searching to resupply the materials. Wool Felt was from Europe and is no longer manufactured. This run of Michigan Caps will be the final caps to be made. The Indigo Dyed Tassels are the last made of one-of-a-kind wool, spun and dyed by artist Terre Biederman, who no longer creates this unique yarn. Lining is 100% natural color linen.

sizes available:

22"- 23"
22 1/4" - 23 1/4"
22 1/2" - 23 1/2"
22 3/4" - 23 3/4"

Example: Cap fits between a 22 1/4"-23 1/4" head measurement. 22 1/4" will fit a little looser and 23 1/4" will fit a little snugger. Any measurement that falls in between will work with for cap, too. Folding the brim differently will adjust the size to fit.
If you don't know for sure about your cap size, please measure around your head parallel to your ears, right above your eyebrows.

10% of each purchased cap will go to Historical Fort Wayne in Detroit, Michigan. https://www.historicfortwaynecoalition.com/

History of original cap: please read the article written by Aaron Bradford which compiles the history of the Michigan Cap along with picture documentation.

Description of the reproduced cap:
Kathy Bradford researched these caps carefully and methodically in the early 2000s when there was a growing interest in the 4th Michigan caps found modeled in images from the early years of the American Civil War. It is sometimes referenced to as a fez or "Canadian cap" and continues to garner a great deal of discussion and interest by living historians.
We have located a beautiful maroon 100% wool felt to fashion the cap and lined with a unbleached linen. Terre Hood Biedermann's famous indigo hand spun, hand dyed wool yarn is used to fashion the unique, long blue tassels that makes the caps so distinctive.

Beautiful hand-crafting and materials! Parcel was sent promptly, arrived early and packaged with care. Only regret is this is the final run! A unique and beautiful reminder of our family's own fallen 4th Michigan Soldier or for anyone honoring the 4th's "Boys of '61" and giving back to their community.

Preservation Parcels is LEGENDARY for the quality of their goods. The Canada/Michigan Cap is not only made of quality materials, its construction is top notch. Anything a living historian sees in this shop that is of interest can be purchased with absolute peace of mind. ...now to save my pennies for a sewing kit/"housewife".
