Born and raised on the south side of London, Jo Ann Kelly rose to become one of the best blues musicians you've never heard of. Over her lifetime, she released or appeared on over a dozen albums. From Wikipedia" 'To many American performers', an obituarist wrote, 'Jo Ann Kelly was the only British singer to earn their respect for her development of what they would be justified in thinking as 'their' genre' ". From her tongue and cheek liner notes: "Jo Ann Kelly is a real blues singer. If you can't tell she's a real blues singer by her funky voice, you can tell it by her career decisions, which exasperate producers and promoters no end... she turned down opportunities to gig with Canned Heat merely because she didn't want to... she [also] turned down a lucrative tour with Johnny Winter... because she didn't feel like doing it." She stuck close to her home in England, but did manage to come to the US for a recording session on the tiny indy label "Blue Goose", founded by New Yorker Nick Perls, an audio engineer who spent his lifetime collecting and re-mastering old 78's he scavenged from the Deep South.

I acquired this record some years ago because it features one of my favorite guitarists, John Fahey, whose work is prominent of the album. That was when I "discovered" Jo Ann Kelly. This record went into storage - and I lost track of it. As a result, I think it has only been played a handful of times. The vinyl is essentially like new. The cover is solid, with a little bit of shelf wear. It has a Promo stamp on the back. The inner sleeve is dandy.

If you're a die-hard blues fan, then you know all about Jo Ann Kelly. If you've never heard her, this is one of her best examples -- on a rare, Near Mint 12" vinyl record.
