High Desert Song, I ~ Original contemporary abstract New Mexico landscape painting by artist Dawn Chandler

"High Desert Song, I" is a luscious abstract dream of summertime clouds in the high desert of New Mexico, with each etched vertical line designating a different passage of memory or awareness.

There's something magical about the skies of New Mexico. Something holy to our clouds. Perhaps because for days and days they can be rare — especially in late spring, during fire season.
But eventually — especially come midsummer — clouds begin to return to our skies, and when they do, they bring such color and ntriguing shape to our skies. And, if we're lucky, they bring rain... blessed, holy rain....

It is one of my "textual landscapes" where I merge passages of traditional landscape with semi-abstraction and words.

"High Desert Song, I" is painted on a stretched canvas; the edges/sides of the painting are painted a flat grey, rendering a frame unnecessary/optional."

This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting by Dawn Chandler.

Here is a bit more about Dawn Chandler's "textual landscapes":

"Rarely when we recall a journey across the land, is our memory in sharp focus. Rather, our memories become a sequence of impressions—a collage of the vistas, colors, textures and shapes that we encountered along our journey’s path.

"My paintings are a celebration of journeys across the land. By merging traditional landscape imagery with fragments of text and abstract elements, my “textual landscapes” suggest land and place in a way that invites the viewer to linger. More than ‘nature studies’ or simple abstractions of the landscape, for me these paintings are deeper expressions of not only journeys in the outdoors, but the passage of time and transience of life. Paint spatters and swirls suggest the movements of birds, often great flocks of them. Vertical lines divide the space into passageways and chapters of time, thought and experience. Fragments of language—most recently reflections on life and the outdoors from my own journals—emerge in a sort of ghost poetry, further beckoning the the viewer to linger and consider the journeys evoked within each painting."

I absolutely love my print, her work is so beautiful (this is my second piece). When I dropped off my print to get it framed at a local gallery the gallery owner was impressed with the artist's skill and wanted to see more of her work. n nMy prints have always arrived professionally packaged and quickly. I would recommend this seller/artist.

This artwork was absolutely beautiful on the site, but is even more in person. I bought this for my husband (who is a Scoutmaster for our BSA troop) who has been to Philmont many times and is his favorite place to go. He was so excited when he opened up to see this. Thank you for helping bring back memories for him. He is no longer able to go to Philmont due to health issues which saddens him. This beautiful artwork made him smile and tear up which was the best reaction I could ask for. Thank you, Dawn.
