Description

This sushi set is made of kiln fired fused glass. It consists of an oblong sushi plate (8 1/4" x 4 3/4"), slightly curved; two wasabi dishes (3" square, about 1/2" deep); two chopstick rests (1 1/4" x 2 1/4"), slightly curved; and two sets of wooden chopsticks. The glass is a beautiful pea pod green with black stringer accents. It takes several steps to construct these pieces: first, I cut the colored glass, and another copy in clear to make the glass thick enough for firing. I've used glass stringers ( 3mm threads of glass) in black for accent. The pieces are initially fired to about 1525 degrees, heating and cooling very slowly so as not to crack the glass or compromise the color. When completely cooled, I grind the edges to smooth out the forms. It is then fired again, this time to around 1300 degrees, to smooth the ground edges. After that firing and cooling, it is fired a final time, about 1250 degrees, to achieve the curves and shapes of the final set. It takes about 3-4 days of heating and cooling in the kiln to finish the pieces. Completely food safe, this set is meant to be used for your favorite sushi! Though you could put it in the dishwasher, I'd recommend hand washing, and not to microwave (glass really conducts the heat!). I've signed each piece on the reverse.

It's gorgeous! Only problem is the size. Would have loved it a bit larger, especially the mirror.
