The body of the stocking is made in a great novelty print cotton featuring Christian icons (crosses, angels, bibles, doves, etc.) in a variety of colors on a black background, which really makes them pop. The body is quilted in a loose "granny" style with cream-colored hand-quilting thread and randomly beaded with tiny red beads that resemble miniature holly berries.
The same beads were used to painstakingly create two long series of dangling scallops to trim the cuff, which is (along with the heel and toe) made of a soft, rich-looking black velveteen. The cuff is also trimmed with 2 lengths of beige satin-edged organza ribbon, the first flat and open under a length of self-ribbon made of the body fabric and applied with additional decorative machine stitching. The beaded scallops were attached to this decorative stitching.
The second length of organza ribbon was folded to provide a quadrupled ground for a red snowflake decorative machine embroidery stitch. This embellished ribbon was applied on top of both of the previous layers of ribbon.
The cuff is anchored with a stacked rosette made of a "yo-yo" style flower made of the body fabric and a gathered ribbon rose made of the organza ribbon, and finally finished with a padded button covered with the black velveteen and a decorative "stack" of the berry-like beads.
The stocking as it hangs, from the top of the tab, is approximately 15" X 10.5" (38 cm X 26.5 cm) and is fully lined with pine green polished cotton. It is gently hand washable, and sturdy enough to be used to hold Santa's treats for years and years to come.
This is the "Hers" version of the "Country Christian" pair of coordinating heirloom Christmas stockings. The "His" version can be found here:
