This Art Quilt is the 1st in a series of Art Quilts - Line by Line.. My inspiration for this series is simply the use of lines. I set a few disciplines for myself first before starting to design this series of quilts. I would only use the straight line and no more than five different fabrics. And I wanted to use some element of surprize. Although it may seem like a very humble mark, lines do have dramatic affects within a design. I have tried to created some of those affects with different angles. I used 100% quality cotton fabrics in a aqua, honey, turquoise, teal, and golden yellow. I then machine pieced and quilted this quilt using 50/50% cotton/bamboo batting and cotton thread. The quilting is done in a close line pattern. A binding was attached by machine and hand sewn down. A hanging sleeve is attached for ease in hanging. This quilt is signed, dated and would be a nice addition to any room, office or studio space. Size - 16" x 22.5".

The quilt is crafted in an improvisational style - a style of quilting that features asymmetrical pieces, improvisation design, bold colors and sometimes large uneven stitches. I am so inspired by this type quilting. It is documented as an improvisational quilt being made as early as the 1800's, but most likely existed much earlier. What I love most is the unique design achieved with every quilt since there are no rules to conform to. I love the rhythm and the playful improvisation these syncopated patterns have. Where once quilts only graced beds, this craft is now recognized as art gracing the walls of museums and leaving their viewers in Awe!
