It was the Era of the Beatnick and the Start of the Space Age ... and the Bongo ...

Society and the Music World were in Love with Percussion ...

Here is a Most Amusing Relic from Decades Past featuring Crazy Bongos & Zany Marimbas!

Was this a recording of the lost Beatnik Bongo Combo?

It has a great vintage Op-Art Cover.

- Percussion in Waltz Time
- Fontana and his Orchestra
- Palace Records PST-674 33 Stereo LP

Fontana and his Orchestra played a lot of waltzes - for which they were known. One day someone had the bright idea : "Say! why don't we record a waltz record using all sorts of percussion instruments!" So they did, leaving out nothing ... It seems that the percussionist's entire repertoire was used on this record ... bongos, drums of all sorts including the bass drum , marimbas, bongos, xylophones, castanets, timpani, bongos, congas, triangles, tambourines, bongos, wood blocks, cymbals, sandpaper scratch boards, bongos ....

The result is an album of unintentional hilarity, which hilarity is helped along a bit by the seeming lack of attention paid by the percussionists to the songs being played .... were they daydreaming? ... a little tipsy?
No matter - whatever was going on in the studio, they recorded an entertaining album ..... entertaining for reasons they couldn't have envisioned! Upon listening, this record may produce a smile or even a laugh or two. I think the orchestra was recorded separately and then the percussion was added in stereo in the studio.

The record is true stereo ... which is a little disconcerting at times as the bongos and marimbas scamper from one speaker to the other, and in the background, the waltzers blithely dance away.....

The cover is a really nifty example of modern commercial geometrical op art - another love affair of the time.

CONDITION
USED / PREVIOUSLY PLAYED

All records are test-played to determine condition
on a standard home stereo system.
Clean and presentable with the following noted

JACKET : Slight curvature of negligible effect - slight discoloration, again of near-negligible effect --- else clean and presentable with no edge splits
LINER : Clean paper liner
DISC : Looks clean and bright -- just discernable are surface marks, but no visible scratches -- the record plays brightly and clearly with a low level extraneous noise - a few small tics, a few pops - a bit of mild background crickle or rustle -- the final track has one louder tic which repeats for three or four revolutions .... possibly a production imperfection
