This is an interesting record - David Carroll gathered in the studio a large array of only percussion instruments - including all sorts of drums - pianos - vibraphones, xylophones and marimbas- bells and gongs - guitars - contrabass - harps - cymbals - many assorted smaller percussive instruments. The resulting music is a solid demonstration of the possibilities of tunes rendered through nothing but percussion instruments - and the results are ... PERCUSSIVE!

Did I say this is nothing but percussion?

The music was performed by six percussionists : Dale Anderson, Hubert Anderson, Bobby Christian, Sam Denove, Harry Brabec and Frank Rullo. Besides these six there were Ceasar Giovannini & Robert Acri on pianos, Harold Siegal on contrabass, Peter Eagle on harp, and Earl Backus and John Gray on guitars.

Some of the music performed was composed specifically for such an orchestra, and some of it is a selection of popular tunes given a new treatment. The results are fascinating. Look past the light background crackle to the dynamic performances.

David Carrol, of course, conducted.... and Bill Putnam served as engineer. Both had their work cut out for them. The results are interesting ... dynamic, spirited, playful and dramatic - all making for good listening.

Good notes on the back cover.

The album cover is pretty dynamic too ... very decorative.

A MUCH-PLAYED RECORD
Clean and presentable with the following noted

JACKET : Bumps to open end corners, with small loss of surface to top tip -- rear has inspection stamp--- mild surface rub to rear -- no splitting -- front is bright
LINER : Clean paper liner
DISC : Looks clean and bright -- no visible scratches, however the record was played often, and as a result, plays with a considerable background crackle, various tics and pops and burrs ---- side 1 has more background noise than side 2 (some tics are briefly repeating) --- there are no stops or skips --- the music carries the day. NOT FOR THE AUDIOPHILE.
