Description

THIS POUCH:
Swashes is from an original called "grove". It is largely abstracted since the original was freaking HUGE. (Like, 6' on the biggest side.)

ABOUT THE POUCHES:
Most of you know that in 2014, the little Nebraska town we were living in was pummelled by rare twin F4 tornadoes. Our home and almost all our stuff was a complete loss. Digging through the rubble, I found only about a dozen of the more than a hundred canvases of my artwork from the years prior, and those were beaten, battered, and broken. Still, I kept them, hoping to figure out how to restore them if I could.

Sadly, as canvases, they were done. They’d been sandblasted, essentially, by the storm. And had a literal house dropped on them. I cleaned them carefully, and kept them more as a reminder than as objects.

Finally, this year, I was ready to repurpose them in a way that let me keep the artwork: I cleaned them again, and cut them out of the stretcher bars, and turned them into the very good pouches you see here, reclaiming them. You’re literally getting a one of a kind piece of my own history in a useful object.

One side of the pouch is original acrylic art on canvas (pre-sealed), one side is heavy canvas duck. Inside are varying fabrics that I’m hoping are almost as exciting as the exteriors, but slightly less, since I didn’t paint those myself. 😃

Dimensions are very roughly 6 x 9”. Some are a little larger; some a little smaller, depending on the original canvas it was cut from. (The zippers are 9” though, so the zip side is almost guaranteed to be right around 9”.) Pencil pouches are between 3” and 5” on the short side, and hold most pencils, pens, and markers. When I tested, even Tombow dual-ended markers fit, diagonally.

The nature of the source material means that you’re going to find flaws. In fact, that’s kind of the whole point. They’ve been “weathered” by an actual tornado — there may be scuffs, or small cracks, lots of crumpling, the odd small hole here and there. Sanded by mother nature herself. This only affects the canvas side, however. The rest of the pouch is constructed with new materials, and there aren’t any holes or other weathering on any part other than the side that used to be part of the art.

Also, in case you’re worried — they’ve been cleaned very thoroughly. I’m pretty sensitive to smells, and if I stick my face in it, I can just catch a little bit of how the world smelled when the dust started to settle, but there’s nothing musty or “dirty” smelling about them. IF, however, you are allergic to corn, please order with caution — we were right next to the local corn co-op’s silos, and there was literally corn *everywhere*. I don’t want you getting sick from touching these, as much as I’d love you to love them.

Returns and exchange details

All sales are final, unless the post office gremlins decided to play field hockey with your stuff. Get in touch with me if that happens and I'll do my best to make you as happy as I can.

Shipping policies

At this time, I can only ship physical items to the domestic USA. (Leaving the house to go to the post office requires pants, and I'm boycotting pants. Because pants.) Luckily, some of what's here is digital, so shipping won't be much of an issue, no matter where you live. <3
