Japanese Wabi-Sabi Inspired Indigo Dyed Wallhanging

Description

One of a kind Japanese Wabi-sabi/Boro inspired, indigo dyed, wall art. Each piece of new cotton cloth was patterned by hand in my studio, using a range of techniques, including screen and block printing, shibori, hand dyeing and distressing, patch pieced together to form a unique textile. Finished with hand stitching using indigo dyed thread onto an over-dyed cotton backing, adding stability, texture and character.

My concept for this contemporary piece embraces the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-sabi - beauty in imperfection and Japanese Boro work, where out of necessity, precious scraps of cloth were patched together to form a domestic textile rich with memories.

If you prefer, you could use this piece as a table runner, but please take care with spills. Hand wash with a bleach free product at 30° for best results, and iron on the reverse. Would also add calming colour and pared back patterning to your bedroom, used as a bed runner.

Please make contact if you intend to use as a wallhanging and we can discuss possible methods for hanging.

. 100% Cotton Wallhanging / Runner
. Dyed and patterned in my studio
. Machine stitched patch construction
. Lined with over-dyed cotton
. Hand stitch finish with indigo thread
. Approx 220 cm x 36.5 cm - 86 1/2" x 14 1/2"
. Weighs 351 grams
. Hand wash at 30° with a gentle bleach free product, iron on reverse
