Materials: ferro rod, jute twine, fatwood
This fire starter is different from others in that it is not just a tool but it is a complete fire starting kit. The handle is rich fat wood harvested in South Carolina. The rod is 5/16" ferrocerium, also known as a flint rod. It produces a very hot spark when shaved with the striker or any other sharp object. The jute twine peels apart into small fibers that creates a very efficient tinder. Keep this in your vehicle or pack for emergency use. Unlike matches and lighters that fail, this tool can produce fire in wind, wet or freezing conditions.
INSTRUCTIONS. 1. Unwrap all or a portion of the jute twine. Cut off a small piece, about 2", and peel apart the fibers to create a loose ball of tinder. 2. Shave small pieces of fat wood off of the handle. Collect several shavings and place over tinder ball. 3. Use ferro rod to create spark to ignite fire. Direct spark directly into tinder ball. 4. Once tinder ignites it will start the fat wood shavings and give you time to build up your fire.
The handle measures approximately 3 3/4" long and 1" x 1"

Excellent product! It took no time at all to arrive to me and it's perfect. I tested it out camping this weekend, and it works like a charm. This one is going to live in my emergency kit/in my car since it's got everything I need to start a fire anywhere! Thank you!
I purchased this bad boy as a gift for a friend because the one I previously purchased for myself proved to be consistently excellent while camping and during a wilderness survival intensive this past summer, where it was the envy of the group. I have no doubts it will be well received, and I anticipate I'll make future purchases as well. Easily my favorite ferro rod and they make a great gift!
Great all in one firestarting solution. Great price. Ferro rod throws all the sparks. It is a softer one, which I prefer as it really only takes one good scrape and you have fire. Will be buying again for gifts.
