Description

These wooden stools are modeled after the iconic Mid-Century Modern wood counter stools made by Wharton Esherick. My bar stools are minimalist, beautiful, and comfortable. Form and function are found in equal amounts with these wood bar stools. Wooden stools of this style made by Wharton Esherick typically sell at auctions for more than $10k each.

This listing is for one stool. Each stool is custom made.

The seats are made by free form carving their profile by hand. I then create the 3 slender legs and join them together with staggered stretchers for improved strength. Each one is truly unique.

These stools are very comfortable and look amazing. Each one is unique and as much art as they are furniture.

Questions and customizations are welcome!

Dimensions:
The counter height stool pictured has a seat diameter of about 12 inches and is 25 inches tall. I can make them taller or shorter at your request. The standard rule of thumb is counter stools should be 24"-27", and bar stools should be 28"-33". All of my work is custom made-to-order and there is no additional charge for taller (or shorter) stools.

The seat:
The counter stool seat is made from beautifully unique spalted maple which I free hand carved from a larger block of wood. Each seat is completely unique, though if requested I can make multiples very similar for a matching set. After carving and assembly I finish the seat with a mix of oils and waxes. This gives the seat a hard, protective, water resistant, maintenance free finish. It leaves the wood looking natural and protected and feeling almost soft to the touch. It does not look and feel like plastic like the furniture from big box stores.

The legs:
The legs and stretchers are all handmade by me on my lathe in my shop. These legs are made from ebonized hard maple. Though they may look dainty, they are more than strong enough for everyday use of the stool. They are finished with the same oil and wax finish as the seat.

This stool is just an example of what is possible. I have some other stools available in my shop with different looks and wood, but really almost any combination of types or colors of wood you can think of is possible. Unless the wood you have in mind is much more expensive, there is no upcharge for custom combinations. Just send me a message!
