Description

This mermaid isn't what she appears to be at first look, much like the legends claim. Necklace comprised of a double sided detailed brass mermaid doubling as a mini working pocket knife. This little mermaid measures 2 inches when closed and 3 inches when unfolded, hanging from a 24 inch gold plated chain, finished with a lobster clasp. Perfect for the mermaid lover, a clever hidden tool, a gift for the Pisces or Aquarius in your life, and unique find that will certainly be a conversation starter.

Legends say the siren was portrayed as a seductresses, who lived on an island called Sirenum scopuli. Sailors who sailed near were compelled by the Sirens' enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast.

Much like sirens, mermaids would sometimes sing to people and gods and enchant them, distracting them from their work and causing them to walk off the deck or run their ships aground. Other stories have them squeezing the life out of drowning men while attempting to rescue them. They are also said to take humans down to their underwater kingdoms. In Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid it is said that they forget that humans cannot breathe underwater, while others say they drown men out of spite.

The sirens of Greek mythology are sometimes portrayed in later folklore as mermaid-like; in fact, some languages use the same word for both bird and fish creatures, such as the Maltese word 'sirena'.

I love this necklace! It’s very poetic and the chain length was perfect; it went a little lower than my collar bone. And the quality was very sturdy! Excellent craftsmanship.
