Object Music #1 was made with a piece of graph paper, an aluminum tin, and three coins. The collage arranges these objects on wood with acrylic paint and encaustic medium.

Object Music #1 is part of a series that uses the same items to make both a visual and sound piece. The accompanying music track only uses sounds created from the objects that are part of the collage/painting.

24" x 24" on wood
Audio can be presented in any format you prefer (CD, cassette, vinyl dubplate, digital file)

More info about Object Music:
Think of how you cherish certain objects. They may be mementos of a specific time or place or person, or they may simply be an ordinary part of your everyday existence, seamlessly embedded into your life in a way that allows them to almost go unnoticed. These random, mundane things often contain much more meaning than it would seem. These objects accumulate memories - associations of moments, interactions with people, or periods of time in ones life, which can all be ignited by a glance or touch. With time and use they gather importance and become mementos of the everyday.

Each version of Object Music is created out of a small selection of these types of ordinary, everyday items. The objects are banged together, scratched, shuffled, flipped, or ripped apart in order to create sound. This sound is recorded, edited, organized, and processed into a piece of music. Similar to how the audio is arranged the objects are physically composed together as a collage on a 24" x 24" wooden canvas.

Object Music is about taking these mundane things, and their attachments, and transforming them into something new - recontextualizing memories while utilizing them for their creative potential and creative constraints. The objects are important, not just as tools to make something else, but as containers of psychological properties, as essential things that open an audiovisual story in the mind's eye.
