Description

Seaside Abode - A little hand stitched, found object wall hanging about life in a quiet, serene home on a rocky cliff by the edge of the blue sea.

About this piece - This piece came together slowly, starting as a barren tree on a rocky, seaside cliff. My 5 year old son looks at it and says, "Mom...it needs a house." (He was so right.)
After dying, burning and piecing, I "drew" in the details with my favorite hand stitches...seed stitch and french knots. Machine stitching used on the water. The edging is a vintage Botany wool tie, and the hanging piece is a vintage water ski tow rope handle that has been in my collection of parts for many years. It's time had come! The string hanger is hand-rusted and dyed cotton that I use to bind fabric during dying and the backing is rusted/walnut ink dyed fabric.

Size - Tapestry itself is 9-1/2" X 9-1/2". Ski tow rope bar is 13" Wide.

Any other questions? Please send me a message, I'd love to hear from you!

My favorite way to work - Before I start a piece, I will spend many days playing with fabrics by rusting, and eco-dying with plants or homemade Missouri walnut ink. I'm also prone to burning things from time to time. As I look through my fabrics, I will see a face, or an animal or a natural structure. I'll piece things together with a combination of my favorite hand stitches and machine stitches from my Mom's 1970's Bernina...which previously sewed costumes for the Ice Capades. 2018 is a "use it up" year for me so I'm finding homes for favorite items I've just always had around and sending them out to live another life!
