This tropical fish wood key chain is based on a pattern by Steve Good. I hand cut my key chains (not laser cut) on a scroll saw. I cut the interior image first from 1/8 inch thick hardwood, then glue the front wood to a 3/16 to 1/4 inch thick backing wood. Next, I cut the oval, shape and sand, and seal with urethane. When dry, I fill the image with clear casting epoxy resin mixed with various colorants. After the epoxy is cured, I sand it flush with the wood and finish with a gel wipe on urethane.

The fish key chain is maple backed with red oak. I filled it with clear casting epoxy resin mixed with orange Pearl Ex pigment powder. As the epoxy cured, the powder formed an interesting pattern in the image. I attached a 4 inch long ball chain and a 32 mm split ring to securely hold your keys.

The size of the oval is 1 1/4 inches high and 2 3/4 inches long.
