The Provincetown (America's most important Little Theater) A Story of the Theatre, 1931 First Edition hardcover by Helen Deutsch and Stella Hanau, both closely associated with the playhouse, is the seminal study of this best known and most important Little Theater in the history of the American stage. During the rise of the LIttle Theatre Movement in Europe and America The Provincetown produced the plays of Eugene O'Neill and thrust American drama and theater onto the world view.

Kenneth Macgowan wrote the Foreword.

After George Cram Cook, the husband of Susan Glaspell and one of the founders of the Provincetown, left the theatre, MacGowan as director, Robert Edmond Jones as designer and Eugene O'Neill as playwright became the "Big Three" of The Provincetown.

Appendices in this book include three essays: "Stringberg and our Theatre" and "Are the Actors to Blame?" by O'Neill and "George Cram Cook" by Susan Glaspell.

The blue hardcover book is illustrated with 35 drawings and photographs. Unfortunately it is in only fair condition, with the spine worn at top, bottom and edges. The front edges of the cover are worn and the ends bumped. But the text is fine, the pages clear, although browned at edges, and the binding is firm and secure.
