Description

Blue and White Yarn Bowl ~*~ Blue Stoneware Yarn Bowl ~*~ Knitting Bowl ~*~ Decorative Yarn Bowl ~*~ Artisan Yarn Bowl ~*~ Yarnbowl ~*~ Yarn Bowls *~* yarnbowls

Fiber artists love a unique yarn bowl in which to store their yarn while completing one of their own unique creations. I'm not only a potter, but I'm an avid knitter/crocheter as well, which is why I became interested in making them.

I threw the stoneware bowl form on the pottery wheel and let it dry to a leather hard stage before trimming and adding funky feet. The bowl sits firmly and does not wobble. Next I applied small bits of clay and textured them to resemble leaves with one of my homemade stamps. I also poked over and over into the clay with the end of a bamboo skewer to give the overall bowl an interesting appearance. Last I carved out the 'j' shape and two of the holes in which the knitting needles rest when not in use, smoothing them with my fingers so the clay would not catch onto them while being pulled.

I turned the bowl over to dry slowly to prevent warping. After it went through its initial firing (called a bisque firing), I glazed part of the bowl this wonderful blue color, emphasizing some of the 'leaves' over others to give it a somewhat variegated pattern and refired.

This bowl measures 4 3/4" high and 5 3/4" wide at the rim, Belly Width: 6" wide. I have my potter's mark near the bottom between the feet as well as my signature and date in which it was created (2018) written into the clay on the bottom. The bowl in the photos above is the exact bowl you will receive.

(Yarn and needles NOT included)
