Learn the basics of weaving with the Weaving Loom Kit. Follow along with my instruction booklet and learn how to weave by making a coaster.

The loom is not just for beginners. Experienced weavers will also find the handmade loom perfect for making small projects while sitting in front of the TV, relaxing at the park or while traveling. The sturdy handmade frame and metal pegs will last you a long time. The water based varnish in oak gives the frame a more finished look.

Supplies include:
*Handmade loom made from sustainably sourced mahogany wood
*Warp thread (the smaller spool)
*Weft thread (the bigger spool)
*A yarn needle
*Instruction booklet describing in detail how to make a professional looking piece of art

The instruction booklet also provides project ideas. The last two images show a sample of what can be done on the loom.

Frame measures 8.5" wide x 11.5" tall (inside frame dimensions).

F.A.Q's

1. What projects can I make with the loom?

Projects range from wall art to items with a more functional everyday use. Some ideas to get you started are:
*Coaster
*Bookmark
*Bracelet
*Coin Purse
*Small Pillow
*Larger items can be made by sewing pieces together such as placemats, scarves and larger pillows.

Find inspiration from other artists on Etsy in my weaving collection: https://www.etsy.com/people/SewNina/favorites/weaving?ref=favs_index_3 Take note of pattern, texture, yarn thickness, types of objects woven in and how the piece is displayed.

Post your finished weaving projects in the Sew Nina Flickr Group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/weavingprojects/

2. How large of a design can I make?

The actual size of a finished piece of fabric will be about 8"x9".

3. Can I make a blanket with this loom?

Weaving on a hand loom is a slow process which is why many weavers use the floor looms for projects as large as a blanket. You may feel discouraged if you find making a blanket is very time consuming. If you are dedicated and have the patience, then by all means, you can certainly sew the pieces together to make any size project.

4. How do I join two pieces together?

When you have finished 2 pieces of fabric and tied it off the loom you can join them together with a whip stitch. Put the 2 pieces right sides (front sides) together. Using your weaving needle and a piece of matching yarn sew along the seam, from top to bottom, top to bottom, until you’ve sewn along the entire seam. You can also Google ‘whip stitch’ to find videos that show how to do this.

5. What types of yarn do you recommend for weaving?

When winding the warp it’s best to choose yarns without a lot of stretch. Cotton or linen yarns are usually stiff enough. This will prevent the project from warping when taken off of the loom. While doing the actual weaving the materials you choose are limitless. You can use any type of yarn out there or strips of fabric. You can also try unconventional materials such as raffia. I even saw a weaving once done with twigs for an art piece. I also sell all types of yarn perfect for weaving or any fiber arts project. https://www.etsy.com/shop/sewnina

6. I'm allergic to wool. What type of yarns will come with the kit?

All yarns included in the kit are cottons or synthetic. I do not include any animal based yarns in the kits (wool, etc.) for the sake of those who are sensitive to allergies.

7. What if I don’t understand something in the instructions?

I am always willing to answer any questions you have about weaving anytime you need help. Feel free to convo or email me with any questions or if you just want to talk about weaving.
