Description

This bowl is 6 inches in diameter and 3.75 inches tall.
This bowl warped slightly during the firing process and is available for purchase at a slight discount.

The bowl is hand thrown and then dipped in a titanium yellow flashing slips through which flowers are carved. Once fired the bowl is sanded and a red iron oxide wash is added. The exterior of the bowl is glazed with a light blue glaze and the warm yellow/orange coloration of the flowers as well as the smooth sealed finish of the exterior surface are the result of the interaction between the clay body (stoneware), the flame and the addition of a soda mixture during the firing process. The interior surface of the bowl is glazed with a food safe white glaze.

The final surface quality is the result of the firing process. The stoneware is fired cone 10 in a soda firing. When the kiln reaches the desired temperature, a mixture of soda ash and baking soda dissolved in water is sprayed into the kiln. The soda deposits on and reacts with the exterior clay surfaces and glazed interiors. The firing process takes approximately 20 hours. Once the kiln is shut off it cools for few days. It is worth the wait, because the results are always a surprise.

Shipping policies

Items will be shipped USPS Priority almost always.

Packages arrive 2-3 business days after they are marked as shipped- most of the time. There can be delays with US Postal Service and those are out of our control. We always will provide a tracking number. Please be patient and notify us if a package does not arrive within a few days of the expected date.

Some items will ship quickly, others, not so much- it all depends on where I am in the process. Each piece takes days to make, days to dry, days to fire, a day to glaze, and several more to glaze fire.

If you are requesting a custom order, or more than 3 pieces let me know and we can work out a deal on the shipping.

Please keep in mind that there are other costs associated with shipping besides postage. Ceramics are fragile, and because of that it needs to be specially wrapped, padded and carefully shipped. All of this increases the cost of shipping an item. Thank you for understanding.
