Description

This beautiful ring was hand-carved by village carver Amank in Garut District in Java, in a small village nestled at the foot of Mt Papandayan. There four gorgeous hand carved rings came to us all together, just like our Momma Charlie and her three little lorises, Click, Kukang and Lucu! Rings measure a UK size S, R and P; the are hand-varnished and painted; topped with a light glitter paint on their black patches.

Slow lorises are nocturnal primates found throughout SE Asia. They lack long tails, have huge eyes, a round head – all of this gives them an adorable teddy bear-like appearance. But do not be fooled! These adorable primates have a venomous bite that can kill even a human! Their cuteness is why they are all too common in the illegal wildlife trade, and have been made famous by YouTube videos showing illegally smuggled animals being tickled or holding tiny umbrellas. Their venomous nature means their teeth are cruelly clipped, and most die or cannot ever go back to the wild.

The Little Fireface Project is a conservation charity dedicated to saving Asia’s small nocturnal species, with a focus on slow lorises. We also reach out to bring awareness regarding other obscure mammals and birds. You can find out more about our work at www.nocturama.org.

FAQs

Hand felted slow lorises are available in almost any colour but I need at least a few weeks to prepare them. Sometimes when we are in the midsts of the jungle these orders need to be postponed!
All of our batiks are hand made and they WILL run when washed the first few times. We suggest hand washing and certainly not washing with other light colours. They may even run in the rain if not washed first so do be careful!
Our items are hand made. Sometimes batiks have small bits of dye that give them a rustic look or the painting on a carving may not be a perfect line. These make the items unique and we think extra beautiful!
