Description

Years ago, I heard a story of an island in the Chesapeake Bay called Holland Island, which was a thriving fishing town through the late 1800s and into the 1900s. Due to rising sea levels and erosion, the island slowly started sinking into the sea, and many people left the island to head to the mainland. A conversation effort was made to preserve the island in the late 1900's, inspired by a tombstone someone found on the abandoned island. The tombstone was of a little girl, and the first line of the epitaph read "Forget me not, is all I ask.." In the late 2000's, the iconic "Last House of Holland Island", which almost seemed to float on the water at high tide, sunk into the sea, and Holland Island was lost beneath the waves. I encourage anyone to go research the story of the island, because it's one of the most fascinating things I've ever read, and it inspired this print.

This is a 1 of 50 print on matte, textured paper and printed with archival inks. The stock is 60 lbs, heavy pressed paper. Each print will come signed and numbered. If you'd like a note or message on the back, please include it in the note section at check out.

All prints are rolled and packed safely in a tube. Available Worldwide! For more of my work and info, head to:
