Description

Jewel Boxes Antique Quilt in Shades of Yellow and Green on Off-White Ground is skillfully hand quilted in conforming stitches one-quarter inch inside every pieced seam and with a gracefully curved quilting motif inside each of the open off-white areas that fits the space and mirrors the pattern of the blocks just perfectly. The quilt blocks are constructed of two shades of solid yellow (although half of the blocks have just the darker shade of yellow) and a distinctive solid green fabric that was extremely popular in the 1930s and 1940s, often affectionately known as "that green". The back of the quilt is an off-white solid and the binding is a solid band of "that green" and in perfect condition, with no wear at all. The inner batting is a medium-weight cotton. This quilt is still in excellent, sturdy condition, with no signs of wear on either front or back. There is a small light brown spot on the front right beside one of the pieced blocks, and this minor flaw is pictured and described in the following paragraph. This quilt measures 63 inches by 80 inches and will look terrific used on a twin size bed. It will also be great draped over a chair or sofa and used as a decorative throw.

The first photo is taken outside in natural light. The colors are bright and cheerful and the hand quilting in the open areas between the pieced blocks makes this quilt so special. The second and third photos show the quilt on a bed. Wow! It is so sweet. The fourth photo shows one of the pieced blocks and some of the surrounding hand quilting. The expert skills of the quilt maker are evident. The fifth photo highlights the beautiful hand quilting in a closer view. The sixth photo shows a closeup of one of the blocks. This one uses only one shade of yellow with the green. Just over half of the blocks are constructed with this combination, and the others have two shades of yellow. The seventh photo shows the quilt folded to reveal the solid off-white back. The entire back is in excellent condition. The eighth photo shows the brown spot that was mentioned earlier in the listing. This small spot is directly to the right of the screw that holds the blades of the scissors together and it measures an eighth of an inch.
