Dimensions

Pendant height: 2.40 Inches; Pendant width: 1.25 Inches

This pendant features a cabochon-cut thunder egg agate from Rockhound State Park, New Mexico. The stone measures 2.04 x 1.18 inches (51.9 x 30.0 mm) and is set in solid sterling silver wire.

Thunder eggs are a very special kind of agate. On the outside they're just round rocks which look quite a bit like a geode. Slicing one open, however, reveals a chocolate brown rind surrounding a solid core of agate which can show any number of patterns. Some of the finest thunder eggs come from Rock Hound State Park in New Mexico. This park was established from a private land donation to the state, given with the stipulation that it always be open for people to collect on. I helped collect the rough this stone was cut from myself when I was only five years old, one of my favorite childhood memories. The rich chocolate-brown base and stormy grey, flat-banded interior make for a unique and beautiful stone.

This cabochon was custom cut for me by Lenny of JBDJewelry. He is the finest cabochon cutter I have ever met--every piece of his has a unique personality. His wife Deloris also does excellent wire wrap. Be sure to check them out at http://www.etsy.com/shop/jbdjewelry.
