Description

This real white tailed deer skull is from the Vermont Mountains. This skull measures 10 inches in length, 4.75 inches wide and 4 inches tall. The bone is of good quality, dense and without aged pitting.

I painted this deer skull in respect of the ancient Scandinavian cultures and my ancestors.

The skull is painted in the color gold, symbolizing the sun, the god Balder, life and the wealth of living. Upon the golden skull is painted all 24 runes of the Futhark and they were painted in the original order starting with UR and ending with Feh.

There are also 4 bind runes on the skull, two in the eye sockets and two on the occipital bones. The one in the right eye socket is to ward off malicious intent by others, or "evil magic". The bind rune in the left eye socket is to attract or enhance good luck. The bind rune on the rear left is for peace and tranquility and the one on the rear right is for the gift of joy.

The teeth are painted red as red is significant of the blood of life. The blood of life equals joy in life. Red is also significant of the creative powers of the universe. The teeth chew into the sustenance of the physical world, thus sustaining the life-force of the flesh and the physical joy of living.

I use acrylic paint and clear acrylic varnish over top to seal and protect the paint and bone from the elements.

As with everything I create, each piece contains dynamic meaning and purpose. Nothing is just for show or face value.
