Description

Vintage bronzed metal Art Deco styled pelican pipe rest, cigar holder or ashtray based on French Art Deco artist Max Le Verrier's famous Pelican sculpture "Love Song" from the early 1920's. This open mouthed Pelican is cast in metal with a bronze finish, and sculpted in a 1920's cubist style with simple yet striking geometric facets typical of Machine Age design. It stands just over 6" tall by 4.5" across on a 2.5" diameter round base. Its open bill can hold a pipe, a cigar, ashes, or trinkets. One wing has an oval emblem embossed "FLORIDA". It's in very good condition with no cracks or breaks, and just has some oxidation inside the bowl and on the rim of base. A highly collectible Art Deco souvenir from the early to mid-20th century, and a cool piece of Floridiana.
