Rice hulls are a traditional material for making mari bases for temari. They work wonderfully well, molding and holding a ball shape with ease. They have been used for centuries in temari making. They actually are the hull/chaf removed from rice as it is polished/processed for food. These hulls are food grade, meaning that they are clean, dry and free from contaminants.

For mari making, place the desired amount in a plastic baggie or the like, form into a ball shape and begin the wrapping process (for information on making rice hull mari and wrapping mari see the How To Section on Temarikai.com http://temarikai.com/ricehulls.html).

This listing is for an 11 ounce (approximate) bag of rice hulls. It will make about 10-12 mari cores depending on size, of course. About 1/2 to 1/3 cup hulls when wrapped into a completed mari yields a mari about 2 1/2 - 3 inches in diameter, depending on your wrapping methods.

We've adjusted the package size to better accommodate postage rates, rather than working on a flat-rate inclusion price. This should help most folks.
