Description

This Original Oil Painting by Huynh Van Phung is titled "Sair House"
A master-work of composition and subtle color. Commissioned in 1968, this antique oil is in very good condition, and has a very special provenance.

The lines of the large thatched-roof homes draw the eye to the lone fisherman arriving home in his boat to the maze of raised platforms lining the homes. A lone figure welcomes the fisherman home, several figures and homes hide in the background. Black wood trim surrounds the outside of the 24 x 32" canvas frame.

This piece was commissioned for an exhibition in Saigon in 1968, the year of the Tet Offensive, during the Vietnam War.

The back of the canvas has an attached COA / Import tag, as well as a signed message written by artist and Cultural Commissioner Nguyen Van Phuong.

The attached COA, as translated from Vietnamese:
Organize the national transportation abroad
Office Secretary General
Cultural Committee
Art Exibition--
Author Name: Huynh Van Phung
Title of Work: Sair House ("Nha Sair")
Product: ?
Price: 12,000$
Numerical Order: (blank)
Signature of Nguyen Van Phuong

There is also a message penned in French on the back, again signed by Nguyen Van Phuong. As translated from French:
"I declare that this painting by Huynh Van Phung is authentic (oil on canvas)
Saigon 20/12/1968. Cultural Commissionor: Nguyen Van Phuong"

The painting is in very good condition. There are a few areas of minor crazing as can be seen in the pictures. The wood frame is in very solid condition, and the black finish on the wood trim around the canvas is in great shape.

The piece weighs 3 lbs 9 oz - and will only ship within North America unless otherwise arranged.
