ancient Roman glass

This glass was excavated in Balkh, Afghanistan and dates to about 400 AD, about the farthest reaches of the Roman Empire and towards the end of Roman rule. It was not until the rise of the Eastern Roman Empire in the 300s AD that the Roman tradition had truly moved into the region. The Sasanian culture lived along side Romans in this region until the 600s, by the 800s the area was Islamic.

8 pieces all together consisting of four sets of pieces cut from the same shard so there are matched pairs. Total weight on this lot is 6.434 grams. All strung together they are 5.5 inches worth of beads. Please see penny in photo for scale of bead size, penny not included.
