Description

An EXTRA-LARGE version of my gorgeous, fully illustrated Airy Wands Tarot deck, sized 3.5"×5.75" (89mm×146mm).

The theme of the deck is the Four Elements, with Wands corresponding to Air, Cups to Water, Swords to Fire and Pentacles to Earth. The designs are often influenced by the classic Rider-Waite deck, but with these variations in the Major Arcana:

* Instead of the High Priestess, Juno with dagger, spear and peacock... but you could see her as a high priestess

* Instead of the Hierophant, Jupiter with thunderbolt and eagle

* As well as the Magician, an extra bonus card: the Juggler, which can optionally be used as an alternative to the Magician

These variations are inspired by the old medieval deck, the Tarot of Besançon, which has "The Juggler", "Juno" and "Jupiter" as the first, second and fifth cards. I chose that deck as a model because Besançon is a special place for me - it was the destination of my very first ever journey to a foreign country at the age of 17 - and it seemed as if it was meant to be.

In the pip cards, I have very loosely followed the designs of the Rider-Waite deck, but aiming at a less sexist approach. I do not like A.E. Waite's blindfolded and helpless women. In my Eight of Swords, for example, the woman stands staring clear-eyed ahead, with calm dignity, and a sense of hidden strength that might lead her to break her bonds.

The back design shown here is "Egyptian Bird People", taken from my 2011 painting "Bird People: Little Green Bee-Eaters of Upper Egypt", but you can choose from a whole range of other designs, such as "Smiling Suns" or "Magical Chequers".

The advertised shipping costs are for standard, non-tracked shipping, so please contact me before ordering if you would like to upgrade to tracked shipping.
