Description

The Dutch School of Painting by Henry Havard. Published in 1885 by Cassell and Company Ltd of London as part of their Fine Art Library series.

With some wear making this more suitable as an elegant study or reader's copy than as a gift.

The contents are in good condition with clean and tightly bound pages. They do have some tanning and foxing both inside and around the outside closed edges, else good. THE MAIN CONDITION POINT to note is that the front endpaper has been removed (see photos). There are a couple of nicks along the edge of the main title page. With a number of black and white illustrations of the artwork.

Chapters: Dutch Painting Its Origin and Character; The First Period; The Period of Transition; The Grand Epoch; Historical and Portrait Painters; Painters of Genre, Interiors, Conversations, Societies and Popular Rustic Scenes; Landscape Painters; Marine Painters; Painters of Still Life and The Decline.

Very attractively bound in dark green cloth boards with an elegant stamped dark red design on the front board and with blind stamping on the back. There is some rubbing to the green cloth of the boards at the corners and the odd faint mark but overall very pleasing with shiny gilt titles.

The spine also has a continuation of the pattern that is on the front. There is some rubbing of the cloth here at the head and tail with some small splits, and the outside edge has some scuffs but overall looking super on the antique bookshelf and with bright gilt titles.

Your copy of The Dutch School of Painting will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon.

H 20 cm x W 14 cm, 290 pages plus 12 page publisher's catalogue, 0.52 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. With the excepton of a small number of countries which I am unable to ship to.
