A short history of french jet: In the Victorian period black jewellery, along with mourning jewellery, was extremely popular and hugely sought after. Jet was therefore one of the most widely used gems, found in Whitby, England, it soon became scarce and so very expensive. In order to tackle this jewellers used a substitute, and so French Jet was born, made from glass shipped from Bohemia, it was made into all kinds of jewellery and was particularly popular with French and English Jewellers.
