Her branches bearing leaves still tinged with the lime hue of early spring, a handsome tree stands between a fenced-off field and an open road in this nature art photograph. But though this photo captures and freezes a moment in time, the subject tree is obviously in motion; the tree's branches are whirling and whipping about its sides and crown thanks to a strong breeze. The cause of this movement can be spied overhead: Thick clouds heading east along Route 66, having already dumped a fair amount of rain over this part of Oklahoma.

Thanks to its lack of neighbors, the tree is a beautiful specimen—beautifully balanced. This can still be seen despite the tree's movement; no doubt on a steamy summer's day, beneath those branches is the place to be! It is the way the tree waved its branches about in the wind that led to my titling the photo "Dancer"—the wind was not so strong that the tree's movements lacked grace.

Photograph Title: Dancer
Print Size: 8x12 with a .45-.5" white border; please ask about additional sizes
Photograph Orientation: Horizontal
Photograph Taken In: Oklahoma, USA

To the left of the tree is a freshly-planted field, its green is tinged with a little bit of gold, a pretty contrast to the stormy deep blues and silvers of the sky. On the other side of the tree and fence is a broad stretch of grass, verdant and already showing evidence of dandelions spreading their seed; a damp bit of mud runs up to the Mother Road, which disappears into the distance heading east.

Having grown up spending a great deal of time in the forests of Michigan, I'm always drawn to the beauty of nature on my road trips even though my "real" purpose of the journey is photographing those bits of man-made America that we are, in many cases, losing. Though nature is probably not usually what people look for on Route 66 and other great American highways, nature is a part of them just as much as the diners and motor courts; taking photographs such as this one is an attempt to offer a view of "the whole shebang", of giving you the whole picture (so to speak!).

• The limited-edition photo you receive will not be watermarked.

• I personally sign & number the back of each art photograph. After 776 prints are made, the edition is closed and the photograph will no longer be available for sale.

• My photographs are professionally printed at the highest resolution on archival photo paper with a matte finish to be smudge, fade, and water resistant.

• Very few of my art photographs are a standard print or frame size; thus each print has a slender white border surrounding the photograph itself. This border not only allows you to buy a frame 'off the rack', but serves to lend a bit of additional protection to the actual photograph itself from any serious damage.

• A signed Certificate of Authenticity is included with each photo print.

• Signed photographs are carefully wrapped in acid-free tissue, sandwiched between pieces of foam core, and mailed First Class. Once I have a tracking number, it will be sent to you.

• My monitor is professionally calibrated for colour; therefore, the colours in your received print may be slightly different from what you see displayed online.

Reviews

5 out of 5 stars (16)

As few of my finished photographs are standard frame size, each of my photographic prints has a white border all the way around the image. This not only means you can buy a frame 'off the rack' if you do not want a custom frame, but the white border does protect the image itself from errant fingerprints or other unintentional damage.
Since these photographs are my own interpretation of the sights as seen by me, I am sorry, but I generally will not make a colour photo black & white or vice-versa. Occasionally during post-production I'll be unable to decide which I like better and publish both, but while it does happen, it's not often, and the image I do release is not arbitrary, but the one I think best suits the subject and composition. Thanks for understanding this.
