Made of African Avodire (avo-dee-ray), & genuine Mahogany, making for a very beautiful contrast. No stock photos here...this one of a kind holder pictured is the one you will receive!
You can use this handy pencil holder/caddie for just about anything you can think of when it comes to keeping things neat & tidy in and around your work-space, and you can do it in style! Whether you need to keep your writing instruments, cosmetics, paint brushes, or whatever, this handy caddie is not only functional, but serves as an artistic decorative accent to your home, office, or studio. This handcrafted holder is an original design that I made in my small wood shop in Southern California without the use of any CNC machinery, but rather with homemade templates & a regular shop router, (for the tray section).
This piece is finished in clear semi-gloss lacquer which brings out the natural & gorgeous wood color, no stain or dyes are used. This is the only example of this design & wood combination, with no plans to re-create this one-of-a-kind piece. This holder would make an excellent gift for the person that is hard to shop for. (markers, pens, pencils etc. are not included). Thanks for looking.

The dimensions are...
7-3/4" wide by 6" deep, & it stands at 4-1/2" tall.
The base is about 1-1/16" thick.
It has 10 holes at 1/2" in diameter.
Hand stamped with a serial number, the year the item was made, and the makers initials, which are mine JE. I also applied my logo sticker with the lacquer clear-coat over it.

AVODIRE (pronounced, avo-dee-ray) – Turraeanthus Africanus
The tree is native to the Ivory coast area of west Africa. Avodire also grows in Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Gabon, Zaire and Angola. Avodire is also referred to as Blonde mahogany. It is a rare wood that has many of the same tonal qualities and workability of mahogany, it is credited as being one of the most beautiful of all the blonde woods. The light-colored heartwood will darken to a golden color when cut. There is not much difference in color between sapwood and heartwood. It is often highly mottle figured. When polished it has a lustrous surface, also reminiscent of mahogany. The grain is mostly straight but is often wavy or irregularly interlocked, producing a very attractive mottled figure on quartered surfaces and is often termed African Satinwood.

GENUINE MAHOGANY - Swientenia Macrophylla
The tree is Native to Honduras, & various parts of South America. It grows from Mexico all the way down to Peru. The heartwood is reddish, pinkish, salmon colored, or yellowish when fresh, deepening with age to deep rich red or brown, distinct from the yellowish or whitish sapwood. Luster is high and golden, texture rather fine to coarse, grain runs anywhere from straight to roey, wavy or curley, often with an attractive figure. Very easy to work with hand and machine tools, torn and chipped grain is common with figured material. Easy to finish and takes an excellent polish. Slices and cuts into fine veneer.
