This 16-inch long Red Oak wand is amazing! I call this deceptively simple shape "Bondes" after a danish mage of my acquaintance. For me as a wood turner, it's totally a boasting matter to hand-cut a long smooth sweep like this. So much more difficult than a lot of short curves, no matter how fancy they look.

The handle is set with an iridescent glass sphere, and the iridescence in these marbles comes from Titanium vapour. The butt end is nearly an inch across, tapering to a quarter of an inch-- and a polished Brazilian Quartz crystal finishes the line.

Red oak is a large, open-grained wood, which gives an endearing fairytale feeling when it's used in small shapes and diameters. I used artist paints to color it in a half spectrum-- from green at the handle to Violet at the tip-- and then added a layer of distressed gold leaf (no, not 23 carat, I'm afraid) over that so that the colors peek-a-boo from a gleaming shaft...

It's freakin' divine!
