This superlative necklace was born when I acquired the old Indian paint stone* oval cabochon that centers it, placing it in an antique brass roped setting and completing the pendant with a southwestern-style brass lizard perched atop the stone.

The strand they hang from is composed of ghost beads (cedar berries), carved horn rounds, antiqued bone rondelles, fire jasper wavy ovals, flower-patterned vintage lucite drums, and corrugated antique brass spacers.

Closing with an antique brass Bali-style s-hook, Zabriskie measures 18", with the pendant adding an additional 2".

*Indian paint stone (also called Death Valley picture rock) is related to jasper. It comes from Death Valley, California, where it was once used for paint and dye. Since the valley became a national park, it's been closed to mining.
