This butterfly has seen better days . . . Circa early 1900s, it has been much treasured, and probably very much worn and well travelled, as evident in its lost enamel and bent feelers. Though it's still very beautiful, displaying delicate engine-turned texture and sky blue, imperial purple and grass green glassy enamel.

Hallmarks and maker's marks: 'STERLING SILVER' (back facing, upper right wing), and 'JA&S' (upper left wing) and '577' (lower left wing)

The maker could be John Atkins & Sons, or J Aitkin & Son (with reference to http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk).

2½ inches wingspan, 2 inches high

Pin and catch work perfectly. However, this lovely is priced for enamel restoration—thankfully enough original enamel and colour remain for a true blue retouching.

Please feel free to contact me for more pictures, if needed.
