Description

Archipelago’ features the striking Sørvágsvatn Lake of the Faroe Islands.

Similarly to many settled islands - especially those with sheer shoreline cliffs, the Faroe Islands face the inevitability of erosion. This piece contemplates the forces that contribute to erosion, including human development on fragile lands. The black and white depiction of the cliffs symbolize how scarcity can turn a resource like land surface into an objectively measurable commodity.

It also contemplates the existence of lush and precious life even in the face of scarcity (foreground).

The original piece is acrylic, watercolor, gouache, pencil and ink on paper.
