The first page of the book holds the beautiful illustration – “Through a Mist in the Depths of the Looking-Glass” Drawing c. 1903 by M. Walter Dunne to illustrate “The Horla” by Guy deMaupassant

It has an oatmeal colored cover with a picture of an old fashioned light in dark brown on the front cover. The spine reads “Mystery and Detective Stories” written in gold in a dark brown block. Midway down the spine is another brown block with “French Italian” written in gold. At the very bottom of the spine, in gold reads “The Review of Reviews Co.”

Considering this book is over 100 years old it is in very good condition. The pages are in excellent condition - all are intact and attached to the binding. The cover has seen better days & is in very good condition with the exception of the bottom, where I am again assuming that a small critter had either a feast or made a nice nest out of the corners and bottom of this book. Though it doesn’t look nice – thankfully it didn’t interfere with any of the reading material or the beautiful illustration. That is all still intact.

Right now the book has that musty smell that old books tend to get. It is being stored in a Rubbermaid container with baking soda and a wonderful sweetgrass sachet. This combination works wonders :)
