Description

“Shoo-Fly Excursion at Wellston Depot” is an original watercolor and comes framed in a silver wood frame with black wash (photo of frame available upon request).

Painting Inspiration: The hamlet of Wellston evolved from an older settlement of a dozen families of the post town of York which was located approximately at the current crossing of North Davis Dr. and Green St. in Warner Robins, GA. This steam locomotive circa 1935 named the “Shoo-Fly” became an integral part of everyday life in the south eastern section of Georgia. People set their time pieces by the Shoo-fly as it lapped the miles from Valdosta to Macon, GA each morning and retraced them in late afternoon at just the right interval for an all day shopping spree in Macon. The little Wellston Train Depot (depicted in the painting) was moved by one man and tied up Watson Blvd. traffic for two weeks. In early 1944 a new brick railroad station was built to accommodate the scores of military personnel building up at Robins Air Force Base. On March 5, 1944, the little hamlet of Wellston became Warner Robins, Georgia.

Includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
