Description

After dinner, you bring out the coffee. I love providing little pieces like this filled with sugar cubes, accented with a sweet sugar cube holder like this one.

The sugar cube caddy~holder is made by Sheffield, and English company, and is made of nickel silver, which is a silver alloy. It’s the kind of silver that doesn’t wear off with polishing.

The sugar tongs are made by a West German company. They are made from 835 silver, a continental standard in Germany, and they bear the design of the Hildesheim Rose. I find the story of the Hildesheim Rose, after which this piece is patterned, delightful. The oldest known rose alive today (700 years), it has withstood wars and time. Rising 69 feet at the Hildesheim Cathedral, it's an inspirational point for the German nation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand-year_Rose

The sugar cube holder: 8.5” long, 1.75” tall, 1.75” wide, 68 grams

The sugar tongs: marked A&S, 835 West Germany. 1” opening, 3” long x .5” wide, 11 grams

Since it's solid 835- silver, the standard for German silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)

No monogram.

Commensurate with age, the condition is very good to excellent.
