Description

This antique / vintage Van Briggle art pottery vase has an Art Nouveau design of a Virginia creeper, an abstract relief of leaves and berries that swirls around the cylindrical top and bulbous base. The glaze is two tone, ming blue and a darker turquoise. The vase has two whiplash handles and a wide mouth --- perfect for flowers or even for use as a lamp base.

This bottom of the vase is incised with the logo, Van Briggle, and Colo Sprgs, and it has a sandy or buff color, dating it to the 1920s (though the mold was used as early as 1903). This is a heavy vase, with thick sides and a pebbled surface in places.

The vase is in good condition overall but has some areas of crackling and some discoloration (not unusual for ceramics this old with a matte glaze) (see photos). The glaze on the rim of the vase is rough with some dirt settled into the small crevices. There are no chips or cracks.

This is a lovely Arts and Crafts piece, perfect for a rustic or more refined home decor.

Size: About 6.25 inches tall x 8 inches wide (15.8 x 20.3 cm)
