Description

This is a crocheted bead necklace made with size 8/0 Japanese seed beads. It has a circumference of 8 beads and is a very generous 24” long with a silver-tone neodymium magnet closure.

This design is one that I dreamed up as soon as I started to learn how to do bead crochet, and translated very well to the medium. I assigned each color to represent GATC, and the black beads to make everything stand out. The black, white, and gray beads are all matte, and the primary colored beads are translucent colored glass that are silver-lined. They pick up the light wonderfully! The pattern naturally spirals to represent the double helix!

I am sure you have asked yourself “my goodness, why is this so expensive?” This particular necklace took about 16 hours total to string and crochet. Each bead in the pattern is strung, in a very specific order(!!!) by me onto special crochet thread, and the length of the finished strung pattern was approximately 16 feet long. It is a very tedious and painstaking process. Once you get your beads loaded on to the thread in the correct order, you can begin the crochet part. For each crochet, you bring a single bead down the thread and that’s how it forms the pattern.

The beauty of this process is that these cannot be machine made so you will end up with a one of a kind work of art that is practical and wearable.
