The Sanibel Shawl was inspired from a recent visit to Sanibel Island. I wanted a double duty shawl that would serve as a simple swimsuit cover up worn tied around the waist by day and something that would also transition into an elegant shawl to wear out to dinner in the evening. The island is world renowned for it’s seashells. It even has it’s own saying “The Sanibel Stoop” because of everyone bending over looking for the perfect shell. Of course the shawl pattern had to have shells, but I wanted a little lacy as well. The open, lacy and offset shell pattern was perfect. Pattern is worked from the top down and has an easy to memorize two row repeat. The one row edging is also very simple. Example shown is worked using Caron Simply Soft and a K hook, measuring 65” at widest points. But is easily adjustable. Also could be worked with a smaller hook for a warmer shawl.
