This one of a kind, artist's proof, is a linocut print of three Russian nesting dolls, known as matrioshka, matryoshka or babushka dolls. The word matryoshka (матрёшка) is derived from мать (mother); literally it means "dear (or little) mother." I love the self-referentiality of nesting dolls; like a fratal wooden mama. Each of the three dolls are hand-carved on a separate lino block. They each have their own unique floral pattern on their round bellies. They are printed in water-based, permanent, gold block-printing ink on hand-made Japanese kozo, or mulberry paper with a deckle edge. The paper is 9.5" or 24.1 cm square.
