The initial idea for this story came when I heard about a ship full of brand new BMWs that had sunk in the English Channel. The report said that the cost for retrieving the cars was too great so they were left on the sea floor. It got me wondering about all of the other things that must be down there.

The main character in Sunken Heart has abandoned the world above the surface and, with all his material needs provided for, lives a very comfortable, if lonely, life below. This short tale of romance and adventure beneath the high seas unfolds across the panels of this accordion fold book.

The full story can be read in a web version that I created and linked to from this address:

Sunken Heart was printed by hand on a 1929 Chandler & Price letterpress with black ink on 100% cotton paper. It is a continuous illustration that runs across all 16 panels and it has a two color cover. Unfolded and laying flat, the size is 38” x 3.75”. Folded it is 4.75" x 3.75".

This first edition was limited to 200 books. I plan to increase the price for each copy as the editions sells. A copy of this book was purchased by the San Francisco Public Library for inclusion in the Schmulowitz Collection of Wit and Humor.

I have recently designed a beautiful slip cover to hold this book. It is hand painted and has a window hole. I will add photos of it to this listing soon.
