This Beach Pebble and Chrome Diopside Jewelry, which weighs 41.6 grams and fits wrists 7 to 8.5 inches, is made in from pebbles collected from the same beach in Cape May NJ that people go to find the famous Cape May Diamonds. I collect the smoothest, flat pebbles then meticulously match them to produce only the finest pieces. Starting with Sterling Silver I sometimes enhance my designs with shells and other stones, many collected by me from other unique localities, for variety and beauty. I bezel set the stones and use a properly made toggle closure as it is a time proven clasp with no working parts to break. I also ad extra rings so the size of the bracelet becomes adjustable or little charms can be added.
It is thought that a Cape May Diamond begins with quartz rocks falling from a Pennsylvania mountain into the Delaware River most likely at or near Delaware Water Gap, in the upper reaches of Delaware River. The rock is transported, ever so slowly, past: Trenton, Palmyra, Camden and Philadelphia and finally to the broad reaches of the shallow, muddy Delaware Bay and is rounded into pebbles during the long journey.
On the pebble-filled shoreline of Sunset Beach, and other nearby beaches, you can search for Cape May Diamonds. They are the clear quartz crystal that, after being polished, look like diamonds to the untrained eye. The other pebbles are also quartz in a variety of colors that are polished as well and the ones we select for our jewelry. It is believed that the sunken concrete ship Atlantus has become a barrier that diverts the tides and currents carrying the Cape May Diamonds from the mountains of Pennsylvania toward the Atlantic Ocean. This alteration of their journey causes them to be washed ashore instead of flowing into the nearby ocean. It is estimated it can take over 1,000 years for the rough quartz rock to move approximately 200 miles, and change to a smooth beach pebble, from the mountains of Pennsylvania to its final resting place in in Cape May New Jersey.
I have added cabochons of chrome diopside to give this a color that doesnt occur in the cape may pebbles
