Description

This listing is for an instant download of a knitting pattern (PDF).

The Quite Spot Shawl pattern is an easy knitting project for those times when you're binge-watching a favorite podcast or series. It alternates eyelet and stockinette sections using 3 colors of yarn. The 4-row-repeat edging is knitted simultaneously and falls along one side of the asymmetric triangle shape. The border section at the end adds a subtle texture with seed stitches thrown into the mix.

Named after a section of Central Park in New York City that is a designated quiet area, this fingering-weight project works well with solids or speckles--or a combination of both!

CONSTRUCTION: This shawl starts with a quick 3-stitch cast-on that grows with each right-side row. The easy-to-memorize edging is worked on the "other side" of a stitch marker and adds an interesting detail. Simple charts for the eyelet and the edging are provided, although my test knitters found the written directions were easy enough to follow without them.

FINISHED SIZE: one size of 102.5-inch (260 cm) wingspan with a maximum depth of 25 inches (63 cm), depending on the yarn used and its stretchiness.

GAUGE: Gauge is not crucial to this pattern, but it will affect the yarn usage and how aggressively you may want to block your shawl, so I recommend knitting a gauge swatch: 20 sts / 30 rows = 4" (10 cm) square in stockinette.

DIFFICULTY: Adventurous beginner (use of yarn overs, increases, decreases).

YARN: 1 skein each of 3 colors (approx. 700 yds / 640 m total) of fingering-weight / 4-ply yarn.

***I love to see your knitted versions of my patterns, so it would be great if you would tag the pattern #quietspotshawl in any WIP or finished shawl photos on social media! :-)
