Description

Finally an alternative to foam felting cushions! You will never go back to foam. Read on to learn why this product has been selling out and is one of my most popular items.

The perfect work surface for your needle felting project!

The Bear Creek Needle Felting Pad is solid wool that is sourced locally from North Dakota farms.

Foam felting cushions wear out fast and cause bits of foam get stuck to your project. I have been contacted many times by customers that are concerned with the potential toxic chemicals that might be released from the foam while felting. I don’t know if we are endangered by toxic chemicals when we use one and have not fully researched this but the thought of this actually happening is a bit discomforting. We also should consider that we go through several foam cushions while felting and the impact that they might be having on the environment after we toss them into the garbage.

This needle felting pad is all natural wool that is grown here in North Dakota by local farmers. We use natural colors for our needle felting pads so there is no dye involved.

Most importantly this felting pad works! It works better than foam felting cushions, rice filled burlap bags and brush pads.

One side is dark and one side is light. We have found that when working on dark colored projects it is best to work on a light surface and vice versa to enable you to see what you are working on better. Colors will vary, but one side will be darker than the other.

4 X 3 inches is perfect for working on legs and other hard to negotiate places.

7 X 7 X 1.5 inches is a versatile size used most often

8 X 11.5 inches is great for larger projects

Don’t just take my word for it, see what Bear Creek customers have to say:

“Not going back to foam! The wool pad is lovely to hold and feel in your hand. It doesn’t make that weird noise when your needle goes through. It is more compatible with the wool, in that the wool seems to roll around on it more easily. I loved it the minute I took it out of the package! It seems to be thick enough and I didn’t have any issues with the needle going through to the other side. I tend to felt in my lap so I was a little worried about that. It handled the multi needle tool and the layering for wet felting great. I recommend the BC needle felting pad. It feels better in texture and softness. It is comfortable to use. Finally the wool seems to roll on it more easily.” Kim

“Much, much more pleasing! Much more comfortable for my wrist holding the work, because it’s not so high off the table as the foam pad is. And if the needle goes through to the wool, it isn’t a problem. Mostly, it just feels soooooooo much better! Try this, I think you’ll find it much more pleasant to use than the foam. If you think you don’t like needle felting very much, at least try this wool pad. You may find, like me, that I’m even happier because I feel like I’ve found a way to really love this needle felting process so much more than before! Peggy

“The pad is a great size and a comfortable height for my wrists, and because it has some flexibility, I can tuck it into my travel kit. I love to felt when I am on long road trips. The foam cushion takes up too much space and it can be unpleasant to use for long periods of time- abrasive to the skin, bits of foam breaks off, etc. In addition, my foam cushion when getting worn (and it gets worn fast) tends to “grab” stray fibers which then cross contaminate other colors as I work. The pad does not do that.” Chris

FAQs

I am afraid I do not do custom work. I did for awhile and found that it was more stressful and took the fun out of what I do. I have found that I can do better work on an animal that I am inspired to make.

That said, I do take requests. I love to hear what my customers would like me to make. I can't guarantee that I will make it but sometimes I am inspired by a request. I keep a list of requests and check it often when deciding what I would like to make next. If you have pictures that is even more inspiring.

I try to notify the person that has made the request when I make that particular animal. I post all my new works on my Facebook page, plus I send out an email newsletter.
I would be happy to gift wrap and add a note to your package.
contact me for a wholesale price list on my needle felting kits.
All of my kits are designed for beginners. You will be able to complete these kits even if you have never even heard of felting before. Beginners can do any of the kits but I have ordered them in order of difficulty here:
Needle Felting Kits:
In order of difficulty:

4. Penguin Kit
5. Bear Kit
6. Hippo Kit (Advanced Beginner)
7. Chicken Kits
8. Turkey Kit

This depends on the child. There are sharp needles in the kit and it does require some patience. I have had 7 year olds complete the kits without a problem. Younger children have completed my kits with the help of an adult.
